It's some clips from the last episode of a short-lived 1969 ABC-TV series
called "Music Scene," hosted by David Steinberg. The show was not a success
in the ratings, but Steinberg managed to get Groucho on as his guest for the
last episode. We get to see Steinberg interviewing Groucho, who tells a few
familiar stories and seems to
be having a good time.

"Music Scene" had a /really/ bad break. They promised at the outset that
each week they would try to get the act with the #1 record of the week
to perform it live.

So what was the #1 record for the first month the show was on?

"Sugar, Sugar".

By The Archies.

Was "Music Scene" the show that was 45 minutes long? I have a hazy
recollection of one of the networks experimenting with two
back-to-back 45 minute shows and I could have sworn that one of them
was a pop music show.

Yes. The other was "The New People", about a bunch of 60s college
students trapped on an island, an island handily provided with all
modern conveniences because of dummy town created for a scheduled, then
canceled, H-bomb test. Not as awful as it sounds -- Rod Serling was
involved in it. On the other hand, so was Aaron Spelling.

"Music Scene" also introduced Lily Tomlin to America.

I finally got around to watching the clip.

What a joy, even at 79 years old, to hear him pal around with Steinberg.

Thanks so much for sharing this.
